Hi, I’m Belma – the CEO & Founder of Work Bigger.
What’s Our Story?
It’s Been a Journey, Ya’ll!
- May 2005
- Jan 2016
- Sept 2016
- June 2017
- April 2018
I start my first job out of college in media. I’m ambitious, ready and excited!
A few months into my first job, I start to feel disconnected from my work. Maybe I just need a change? Soon, I’ve moved on to the next opportunity. I’m checking off all the right boxes, and I keep doing the “right” things but 7 years into my career, I still lack confidence, feel burned out and eventually purpose-less.
I go back to graduate school because isn’t grad school the solution to all of our career problems? And while in B-school, I see that we’re approaching this whole career thing all wrong. We’re told to network, polish up our resumes and create “ideal” company lists without asking and answering the bigger questions of who we are and what we want. So we go from job to job hoping the next opportunity that comes our way will finally be the right thing! And it’s not…
Graduation! I’m ready to solve this massive problem I’ve identified, so I co-found a company called BOULD, a career change platform for women. But 1.5 years in, we shut it down. I’m burned out…starting (my first) company on the side while working full time at the largest news organization in the world and adjusting to #momlife is exhausting.
Writing becomes my therapy. And because there’s still not a solution to finding work you love (aka articles on “Top 5 ways to update your resume” really aren’t doing it) I launch a career blog www.belmamccaffrey.com while adjusting to #momlife and working at the Associated Press. This time burn out is not an option.
I negotiate a part time role at my company so I can start building this new platform. I go from a blog to building programming and launch the Work Bigger Pilot, a program that teaches individuals to dig deep so they can work from a mission-driven, connected place and leverage work to create a more conscious world. We have sign ups immediately!
We launch the Work Bigger Community on Facebook because #bettertogether Let’s stop the awkward networking and build safe spaces for people going through transitions.
From a blog to a program to a community – we’ve built a platform and launch this awesome website (if we do say so ourselves)! Now, our goal is to support your career change but we’re not here to offer cover letter or resume advice (resumes are dead anyway and I bet acing your resume hasn’t worked for you so far).
We’re here to radically change your career transition experience from one that’s demoralizing and stressful to one that’s empowering and badass. We’re here to change how you think so you can find growth and success, use you talents to improve our planet, and get paid doing so. #BAM
Meet the Team
Belma McCaffrey, CEO & Founder
Hi, I’m Belma. Challenging the status quo and questioning everything gets me super fired up. I bring a big vision and strategic mindset to Work Bigger. I’m also a community builder, a writer, program developer, and a coach at heart. Seeing people succeed is my favorite (and often makes me cry happy tears). When I’m not working, I’m hanging out with my family in Hoboken, NJ, traveling, reading, and eating (lots of cheese) and drinking (lots of wine).
Kate Solis Silva, Work Bigger Coach & Community Director
Hi, I’m Kate. I’m a holistic career coach who is super passionate about
supporting women through the self-discovery process. I especially focus on women who want to deepen their impact, personal fulfillment and consciousness so they can move into work that’s personally meaningful. In addition to being a Work Bigger Coach, I’m also the community director. Connecting personally is big here, so you may find me reaching out to you to share an #intro, #ask and #offer. I live in Chicago with my husband.
